The Republic of Sonora's Aerial Fleet was officially formed in 1885 with the purchase of the Composite Dirigible/Negative Gravity Screw Aeronef 'General Crocker'. Built by Henri and Etienne Lavoiselle, a pair of French Aeronauts, the Crocker was used as an observation and scouting platform. It was entirely unarmed save for signaling rockets and a small brass muzzle-loading signal cannon. The vessel never saw aerial combat and was transferred to the department of the interior as an aerial survey vessel in 1890 it was renamed Sonoran Explorer at that time. The Crocker was scrapped at Hermosillo skydock in 1902.
